Dr Eric Balki is the CEO and Chairman of TriPyramid Ventures and an Honorary Research Fellow at Lancaster University running a lab looking at aging and longevity. Dr Balki has an undergraduate degree in Physics , and post-graduate degrees in Finance and Technology Management from Kings College London, and Lancaster universities. He also is legally qualified, with BPTC and GDL from University of Law. Dr Balki has a PhD from Lancaster University that looked at technology, medicine, engineering. Dr Balki started his career working for the United Kingdom government working for MoD, DTI, and Electronics Design. He founded and managed the Technology and Business Unit in the North East channelling European Social Fund (ESF) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the regions innovative engineering companies. He also worked on FP 6-8 (European Framework Programme) multi country engineering projects, including the Corrocean Project developing sensors to detect rust and structural deficiencies in bridges. He attracted seven figure funding for the North East to develop its first super computer based on Beowolf parallel computing architecture, using Sun Computer hardware, setting it up successfully, for complex microchip design and rapid product development. He went on to lead a successful spin out V3 Technologies which developed one of the worlds first real-time conferencing protocols, which allowed for sharing of VNCs for design of microchips. This technology was heavily utilised by large corporate customers like SCA Hygiene, Merck, and ATMEL, and was the precursor to Zoom and Skype. The technology was later on absorbed by Apple Computers. Dr Balki was also responsible for developing one of the early Natural Language Programming models for Artificial Intelligence called Alternodes, the architecture of which was successfully incorporated in many AI solutions and AI agents worldwide. Dr Balki developed the KHIS (Knowledge House Information System) which was a software for project and financial management, as well of all third sector funded projects worth more than £500M, by all six universities in the North East UK, including Durham and Newcastle Universities. After working for the public and academic sectors for six years, based on his experience in developing financial systems and his management of European funds, he made a transition in working for the private finance industry, initially working as a fund manager/director for investment in innovative businesses, then also working in M&A, and commodity trading, working with companies such as HSBC Luxembourg, Goldman Sachs, and Berkshire Capital. After gaining a multi disciplinary experience in various sectors, Dr Balki commenced TriPyramid growing it organically, in his areas of expertise. Today, TriPyramid’s ethos is to keep evolving and improving its knowledgebase.
